I think I can speak for everyone, when it comes to how absurd some of the rules at Framingham High school are. There are also some rules that were never really looked at as serious as they are today. I dont like the tardy rule. Why should you get a saturday school for being tardy? excused, or unexcused. For some, I know their parents are the reason to them being late everyday. Students should not be punished for their parents taking them late to school. That is just ridiculous. I have yet to have had a problem with this rule, and I'm pretty sure I never will, but for those many students who have had trouble with this rule, I feel bad for. I know a few who have saturday school throughout the end of the year all due to tardies. When you hear this, you began to see how crazy this rule is.
There are also rules like the new ipod policy this year. I know many who like to tune the world out when they aren't feeling to well. Comfort is brought to them by their ipod on a bad day. Now students can't do this anymore. I find this ridiculous. If students use their ipod in class thats their own faults. They're the ones not learning why punish everyone by making this rule? Listening to your ipod isn't distracting anyone, unless it is loud, but thats when you ask them to put the volume down. Some teachers dont seem to care if you have your ipod, but then there are other teachers who get furious. I feel like that due to it being a new rule, it doesn't get enforced as much.
There is also the no phone policy. There have been times where I have had to text my mom to tell her that I will be staying after, or that I will not be staying after. How else would I be able to do this considering she is at work? This rule is just not right. We should be able to text during school. Maybe not during classes, but why not during breaks? Our school is like an asylum in a small way. It is mainly like it due to the rules that we have to follow. Both FHS, and an asylum like the one in One Flew Over The Cukoos Nest have strict rules for the place present. There are rules that are more enforced then others, but rules are rules. These rules limit your individual freedom while you are present at that specific location.
I don't have a problem with the phone policy. I mean texting IN CLASS would be distracting. I agree however that at lunch texting and listening to your iPod should be fine. The one time that i have gotten my Ipod taken away was at lunch by Ms. Redboard. I didn't try to hide it b/c i've listened to my ipod in so many other classes where the teachers sees it and does nothing about it. I absolutley hate the iPod rule though. The thing i hate the most is that they don't enforce it. I mean i hate the rule anyway so i don't think it should be enforced, but if it's a school rule at least have the teachers enforce it. In freshman study all i did was listen to my music.
ReplyDeleteI think that we may see the rules as unreasonable because they are effecting us,but if you think about it they all make sense. like for example the phone rule. we don't like it because we want to be able to text in class and not pay attention, but it is a necessary rule because if it wasn't there that's exactly what would happen and no one would learn. A lot of rules are just looking out for our best interest. They have a tardy rule so that if you don't like the punishment then after a while maybe you'll stop being late. I think that if we were in the position of power we would make similar rules because they need to be made to keep people in line and under control. Without rules there would be chaos.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the way you view the rules here at FHS. It's true- we shouldn't get a saturday school for being tardy three times. There's traffic in the morning everyday- people need to get to work as we need to get to school. Sometimes parents don't really care or don't worry too much about hurrying to drop us off because there not the one's who are going to suffer the consequences. Also, if you ride a bus parents care even less if you are punished at school because it's your fault for missing the bus because you woke up late or took too long putting your makeup on- something that happened to me almost every day in middle school =D
ReplyDeleteI definitly agree. There are many rules that are set by the principle and other teachers that are not taken seriously. For example the no phone rule. People still use thier phones during class and get away with it as long as they don't get causght.
ReplyDeletei understand that cell phones and are distractions in classrooms but i don't see them a distraction in lunch break. I agree with that we should atleast be to use our devices during lunch time because it is not really a distraction to anyone. Just the other day i got my iPod taken away from Mrs. Redbord while reading a news article. She saw me using it while throwing the trash, i quickly tried to hide but unsuccessful. I thought maybe i can pull a smart one on her, saying that "i don't know what your talking about" didn't work. So while I was turning it off I told her its a iPod, she tells "no its a phone, i have the same one" i tell her again that its a iPod but she wouldn't listen, then finally i gave up and told yeh its a phone. I told her my name Sammy and to give it to Ms. Sakata, she knows me by the first name. Then she tells me what are you, Madonna with the first name, no last name infront of the whole table. I felt so angry and embarrassed. Later on when i went to go pick it up, Ms. Sakata tells me i was giving her attitude. Was i giving her attittude? anyway, i think they should allow us to use our phones and iPods during lunches.
