Scarlet Letter Essay

In American Litterature we were assigned our second essay of the year. The first one was not that bad. I felt as if it just came to me, and whatever came to my head I jotted down. The topics are to talk about dimmsdales torment, and how he feels that it is a blessing from god, another would be to talk about whether it is better to live with guilt, or public shame. The third is to talk about how is Salem one could be forgiven for their sins by doing something, and how in Boston it is different. The last topic is to talk about the symbols in the Scarlet letter, and what role they play, such as the forest.

We were given a graphic orginizer so that it would be easier to write our essay. On the graphic orginizer everything is broken up so thsat writting the essay will be easier. On our graphic orginizer we need three quotes for each paragraph. On our final one it is one quote per paragraph. The essay is due on Tuesday. This gives me 3 more days to finish it.

I've already started part of it. That part is the graphic orginizer. I'm thinking of just finishing it this weekend so that I could give it to him monday to edit. Maybe if I do this I'll get a better grade. Hopefully I do since essays are a good portion of our grade. Hopefully I dont procrastinate while I am writing it, seems to always happen.

The Scarlet Letter

I find it sad that at times like these people are made fun of just because of one small mistake that they made. Hester Prynne is the main character in this story. She has had a baby without being married to the man she concieved the baby with. During this time this act was highly looked down upon. Hester spent 3 months in prison and got out mainly due to her needing to give birth.

Hester's punishment was that she had to stand on a scaffold in front of the whole town. Families would come only to taunt her, and throw things at her. The town made her have to wear a neckless that has the letter "A" for Adultery which she has committed so that everyone in town will know of what she has done. Hester indeed made the neckless and wore it with pride. She was not ashamed that she had the baby. She loved her child Pearl.

Hesters husband appears in the 3rd chapter. He was supposed to follow her after she had arrived in Boston but he never was able to until now. She recognized him immediately. Her husband then goes around town asking about her history. The people tell him about how she left her husband thinking that he will follow her. They also tell him about how noone but herself knows who the babies father is. Due to that she recieved the punishment she has now.

Blogging

I find blogging a real cool thing. Its interresting to see what other classmates write about. It is also a cool and interresting way to put your thoughts on different topics that we talk about in class. Blogging makes things a lot easier to me. It makes me think about what we learned in class, and then makes me get into detail on the things that we learned. Its also something where I can be relaxed as I am typing it because it pretty much is my point of view on a thing, and not something where it must be written in a certain way.

Having a blog makes you feel as if you own everything on it, and that nothing you post on there can be looked upon as wrong. There are other websites that I have such as facebook, and myspace. Blogger is a third that I partake in. I never thought that one day I'd have my own blog, neither did I ever really want to. Now that I have one I dont mind it at all, instead I actually like it.

It is a very interresting way to get your thoughts down. I happen to like typing more then writting on a piece of paper. The main reason for this is because when I am writting on a piece of paper for a long time my hand tends to get really tired, asfor when I am typing my hands do not normally get tired. It is also cool to see what what ideas and thoughts other classmates have on what we have been talking about in class. It just helps you see other peoples points of views on topics. Blogging is a great way for people to write about their feelings towards something.
